Loretta Zullo Loretta Zullo

Loretta Zullo, Mesa Public Schools, is our 2016-2017 State of Arizona Director of the Year! Loretta has been a member of SNAAZ for 20 years, serving as our State president in 2004-2005.

Ms. Zullo has implemented successful programs in her district throughout the years. She has enhanced student menus by creating a "Harvest of the Month" theme for the elementary sites. Each month a different fruit or vegetable is introduced on the printed menu and served throughout the month. Information about the item is on the menu along with a recipe. At each site a nutrition character is posted about throughout the month to educate the students about the item. She has expanded high school menus from six items daily to sixteen items daily. The enhanced menu has increased participation at our sites. Student surveys have been very positive about the new selection of items daily. Student taste tests and new recipe development are always a priority for the her.

Loretta develops and implements a theme each year for their department. It begins at the opening managers meeting each year and is carried throughout the school year. This year the theme is "Making Connections and Making Them Count". At all of our meetings throughout the year, managers report on the connections they have made and their successes. In May, a year end dinner for our employees centers around the theme. The themes have created a lot of excitement in the Child Nutrition department.

Loretta Zullo has served as the East Side Chapter President of the School Nutrition Association of Arizona. She encourages her staff to participate in monthly chapter meetings. She has served as the Public Policy and Legislative Chair and organized our annual LAC conferences in Washington DC.

Hats off to Loretta Zullo, our Director of the Year!

Luz Orta, Manager of the Year

Luz Orta
2015-2016 Manager of the Year

Luz began working for Yuma School District One in 1982. For over 33 years she has been a hard working employee that never complains and always has a positive attitude and a smiling face. She has been the Cafeteria Manager at O.C. Johnson Elementary School since 1982. She is an example of a true team leader that uses her school food service knowledge to the best of her ability. All of the students at her school call her by name. She makes others feel welcomed and never makes anyone feel that they deserve anything less than the best. She goes out of her way to get to know all of the families that she comes in contact through the school day. She has been there for many generations of students that all remember her even though they are long gone from the school. Luz makes a point to talk to anyone and everyone that crosses her path. Yuma School District One is lucky to have such a remarkable employee and friend taking care of our students. She has a passion for school food service and it shows when you walk on campus and into the cafeteria!
